I love that you put Milo on this list. I spent my childhood in Indonesia, and we drank a lot of Milo there too. I think I would add that the food in Malaysia is pretty good too!

One of the best experiences was seeing a leather back turtle painfully make her way up the beach in the night and lay her eggs, then the next day we saw a tiny baby turtle in the nearby sanctuary making its way down to the sea. Absolutely awesome!

Excellent guide – I have had a couple of days in Malaysia as a long layover but don’t really know that much so this guide is very helpful! I had no idea about the bacon though – never would have dreamed it was anything else! And I’m also surprised about the Guinness too – who would have known!

Great suggestion about making sure the taxi meter is on. I did not know that the Malaysian Rainforest was older than the Amazon or that it contained 20% of the world’s animals.

That’s all useful stuff, especially the reminder about checking the taxi meter is on. I had no idea about there being so many animal species; that’s definitely upped Malaysia on my radar for a future trip.

I visited Malaysia when I was living in Hong Kong. Love the paratha and curries although they can be spicy!

I never knew that Malaysia was a Muslim country! For some reason I thought it was Buddhist… so I learnt something new reading this! 🙂 My grandparents have been to Malaysia several times, and really enjoyed their trips there – I’ve yet to visit, but it’s on the list 😉 x

I’ve been to Malaysia twice and over the years it got stricter – whereby the east coast was extremely islamic already the first time I was there. So it’s funny that they have Guinness there since at many hotels there was either no alcohol at all or it was super-expensive.
Sometimes it was not very pleasant to travel as a women bye:myself….let’s see how things go on.

Taking a metered taxi is a great idea in so many countries. The last thing I want to do is start haggling with a driver, especially with my luggage in his trunk. I am already tired from travelling and don’t want any more annoyance.

It is very interesting to read most of these things. I did not know that bacon could be used for even beef and chicken in Malaysia but I do understand the logic of not serving pork because I live in a Muslim country as well (UAE). I guess it’s the same thing like in India when they call a burger ‘hamburger’, it could still mean that it is made of chicken, because beef is banned in India! It’s also good to know about the unlicensed taxi drivers, better to always take the metered ones of course. And its pretty cool that Air Asia connects almost every city, it’s easy to get from one place to another!
