In ancient times these rugs were traditionally made by women for their utility purposes. They formerly served as blankets to combat the cold weather in the mountains and were also used as bedspreads. 1. I have Morocco on my list. And definitely a Berber rug would be one amazing souvenir. I would be a bit nervous to make sure I’m getting quality. I know there are a lot of “knock offs” that could fool any tourist like me!

    1. When we went, our guide took us to several different locally owned Berber Rug stores that would teach us all to look for and what to avoid. So I guess like everything, you just have to take your time and find out what you like.

  2. This was a good read. I am heading to Morocco Hopefully next year. and this read really encourages me to understand these traditional pieces better and purchase one too. The images are beautiful. They show the true beauty of these Rugs.

  3. The Berber rug looks beautiful, specially the red one. I wonder how long did it take to make one rug from start to finish. Although it looks nice to put in the living room, I know I’m not the one who can take good care of it.
