Wow Florence in Alabama! So interesting to know it is rich with art and history. Very helpful post too with tips on where to eat and stay. I am saving it with hopes that I will be able to visit some day.

Honestly, I never heard about Billy Reid and Natalie Chanin. But I think it’s because I’m not their target. I heard about Hellen Keller’s birth house, although I don’t recall its location.

We have actually come across several Frank LLoyd Wright Houses around the world but the Rosenbaum House was the first we actually got a full tour of every room and it was very cool for sure. It kind of reminded me of a Retro 70s style set up for some reason with its square feeling inside and out. But if you love architecture I agree it is a must to see in Florence, Alabama!

I am architecture obsessed, so you had me at the Rosenbaum House! I’ve read everything there is ever to be read about Frank Lloyd Wright, and know the story of this home very well. But I have yet to do any tours. So I would definitely add Florence to the list.

I can’t say I knew anything about Florence, Alabama before reading this informative post. I was also so fascinated with Hellen Keller’s story as a little girl, so I’d definitely want to check out her old place. The Frank Lloyd Wright house would also be awesome to have a wander through.

I definitely didn’t know about Florence, Alabama until now! I personally don’t shop much when I travel, but would love to check out Alabama Chanin for sure. They have a great concept and it’s awesome to see more stores taking up eco-friendly initiatives. Dining in an old bank sounds pretty cool too. Thanks for putting Florence on my radar!

I’d never heard of Florence, Alabama either! Obviously very different to it’s Italian namesake but at the same time still seems filled with amazing food, art, culture and history too which is awesome! Looks like a fun place to visit.

In reply to Delphine Mignon. Yeah, the Fashion is on point in Florence, Alabama! Billy Reid is always an amazing store to me and I know little about fashion. I think it is funny about the name thing as well but I have to say, Florence, Alabama may have done more for Music in the last 50 - 100 years than Florence, Italy!

It’s funny how some American small towns are named after much bigger and notorious European cities, like Paris or Florence… Sometimes these places hold gems… I would be keen to visit the Alabama Chanin and Billy Reid stores and have a look at their collection, it’s sure to be unique!

I will say that we dont often eat sushi when we travel especially in land locked regions but we do pound down the thai food, especially if we finally need a break from trying the cultural stuff!

You are totally right! we did think of Italy when we read the title of your post! Actually, we had no idea there’s a city called Florence outside of Italy, let alone in Alabama! haha… When we get to travel to the USA again for another road trip (hopefully in a few years?!), we’ll make sure to stop in Florence then! Hopefully, the restaurant Yumm Thai Sushi & Beyond will still exist, as we always like to have some sushi wherever in the world we travel to!

In reply to Amy. Yeah, the Music aspect of Muscle Shoals & the W.C. Handy aspect alone are worth the trip, though the food and beer definitely enhance the adventure!
