Cologne looks like a city I could easily spend a few days in. The cathedral looks amazing and I’d love to explore the local markets, take a boat ride over the Rhine and try the local foods. I’m not much into museums as such but the Chocolate Museum sounds like one I’d probably love!

The Fragrance Museum and the Schokoladenmuseum (Chocolate Museum) are two places I would like to visit.

I haven’t heard to much about Cologne, but it looks like a great place to visit. I would love to visit the chocolate museum and see all the locks on the Hohenzollern Railway Bridge. I have seen similar things before, but not quite that much! Very cool. I would want to take the cruise on the Rhine River to. I would love to try some local cuisine and would be curious as to what vegetarian options there are.

In reply to Retirestyle Travel. Yeah the River ride was fun! Gave us a taste of how we would spend our honeymoon a few years later when we took the Rhine River Cruise to see all the Christmas Markets. Unfortunately the second time we never made it up to Koln again but it was amazing.

I want to tour the cologne factory and lock in my love. Of course it is a given that I would have to try the local cuisine and drinks. That is half the fun of traveling!

In reply to Joanne. We also have been on the Rhine in a few different sections of Europe and though they all have an air of similarity, I think in Cologne it felt more like a massive river. The Cathedral in Koln is 100% a must. It was so amazing both inside and out and it generally is the focal point of the entire city. No matter which of the 10 Things to do in Cologne, you always seem to be looking back at the Cathedral!

We almost visited Cologne a few years ago. I wish we had! I’d just love to visit the Cologne Cathedral. We’ve explored the Rhine in Switzerland but it would be nice to wander its shores in Germany as well. I wonder if there’s much difference? I’ve never heard of Chocolate Heaven before. That’s would definitively be on our list as a must visit

Ah ha! I was looking for the chocolate factory I visited on a school trip and it is still there! I remember the cathedral and its commanding presence… And I’m pretty sure I did the cruise on the Rhine as well. I also had dinner in a typical restaurant, although I didn’t drink beer at the time.

yeah, I was so impressed with Cologne and how amazing it truly was! When I first met my friend Johannes on the Camino and he would tell me about his home city of Koln or Cologne, I had really no idea of where it even was or why anyone would want to visit. But boy am I glad I went because it may be tied if not even eke out Munich for me as one of the coolest cities in Germany!
I do love your philosophy on why all people should climb all towers or mountains…I mean you burn the calories ahead of time, then all the calories form chocolate in the factory don’t really count! Genius!

A city with a Chocolate Heaven sounds like Heaven on Earth to me. I always climb the tower, no matter where I am. Then I can eat more chocolate!

I had no idea cologne was named after Cologne. I feel like I just had one of those aha moments where you realize you have missed the obvious for your whole life.

I also had assumed that fairytale castle in the Black Forest was the most visited spot in Germany. I have learned a lot today. Partially that I need to explore more of Germany. I have only been to Munich and Regensberg.
