Romantic Things To Do in Casper, Wyoming

Romantic Things To Do in Casper, Wyoming

When thinking about a romantic getaway, I am sure places like Paris, Rome, and even Buenos Aires come to mind. So it was quite a shock when we discovered a friend added Visit Casper, Wyoming to our Couple’s Bucket List at our wedding. Now don’t get me wrong, Wyoming is a beautiful place with tons to do. But it doesn’t really spring out as having one of the top 10 most romantic cities in the world.  However, after spending a few days there, it is evident that the second-largest city in Wyoming is packed with romantic things to do for any type of couple.

So let’s dive into all best activities for couples to do in Casper, Wyoming.

Now if you are anything like us, then exploring the history of a travel destination is always a fun thing to do. We are the type of couple that loves to read all the signs and interact with all kinds of exhibits as we learn about a location. Plus, it is a great way to play and be goofy with each other which can often kindle romance. Thus, a trip to the National Historic Trails Interpretive Center needs to be added to your itinerary.

There are tons of cool exhibits about pioneers who came together along the Oregon, California, Mormon and Pony Express Trails. But what we loved was all the fun, interactive activities for “kids” of all ages. For example, we got to ride in a virtual covered wagon, send a letter by Pony Express, and even throw a real atlatl!

Fun Fact: The National Historic Trail Center Foundation is FREE to enter. Of course, they are a non-profit so if you were to make a donation here it is tax- deductible! But it also makes you look extra sexy to your partner when you donate money to a good cause. Just sayin!

Perhaps one of the most fun memories we have ever had was exploring Cartagena street art. So, we were especially excited when we discovered a remarkable art scene in Casper, Wyoming. Throughout the downtown area, you will see many amazing murals created by Casper Mural Project that will leave you speechless!

Now for those couples who prefer walking hand in hand amid something a bit more modern, you will want to visit the Nicolaysen Art Museum. Located in downtown Casper, this is Wyoming’s only contemporary Art Museum. Now of course you can find works by Picasso, Dali, and Matisse. But what we really loved was all the works from regional artists like Bria Hammock and her “Notable to Notorious Women of the Wild West” exhibit or Mimi Fenton and her “Holding in Common” exhibit.

Fun Fact: The building that houses the Nicolaysen Art Museum was once a lumber warehouse and is absolutely gorgeous inside. Also, one of the coolest things to do in Casper is to check out the antique pendulum clock hiding in the lobby!

For those couples who love breakfast foods, Casper may be your heaven. Whether you love the fun coffees & exotic shakes at the Metro Coffee Company or you prefer the classic breakfast fare at the famous Eggington’s in downtown Casper, there is no shortage of options. But perhaps one of the best breakfasts to be had in all of Casper and perhaps even Wyoming is at Sherrie’s Place!

Sherrie’s Place may look small but it makes up for it with gigantic portions & an unbelievable staff. If people-watching is one of your favorite activities this is the place to do it! We loved watching Sherrie walk around talking to all the locals who entered as if every one of them were her extended family. Plus, if you’re okay with sharing food with your loved one, we highly recommend you get their gigantic Cinnamon Roll for dessert. To be honest, we are not sure how we fit it in our bellies after the big breakfast. But it was so good we couldn’t stop eating it!

Activities in Casper for Couples Who Love Weird Stuff

Gravity Hill is one of the 7 Wonders of Casper, Wyoming that every couple should explore
For those of you who like us, love strange phenomena, bizarre myths, or just plain weird stuff you’re in luck! (We think?) That is because there is plenty of weird things to do in Casper that will be fun to discover. Perhaps one of the neatest things we searched out was the infamous Gravity Hill. According to the 7 Wonders of Casper, along Casper Mountain Road headed to Garden Creek Falls, there is a spot where your car can actually roll uphill while in neutral. Not going to lie, we tried it several times with our stick shift car and never rolled uphill. Though while in neutral we didn’t roll backwards either which was a bit bizarre and a lot of fun just testing it!

Another fun activity to try is the Echo Chamber located behind the Natrona County Public Library. Also known as the Center of the World, this unique architectural site is built to echo whatever is said by the person in middle of the circle. Just simply say something fun, silly, or better yet, romantic, to the plaque in the middle of the wall & see if it echoes throughout Casper!

Hot Tip: Just a few blocks away from the Natrona County Public Library is perhaps one of the best lunch places in all of Casper, Wyoming. The Cottage Cafe is an unassuming hidden gem in what looks like a neighborhood house. However inside the blue and white exterior you will find a truly romantic restaurant with great wraps, sandwiches, and salads. Make sure you get the tequila lime chicken soup because it is amazing!

Meet Your Date for a Beer in Casper

Having Beer Flights at Gruner Brothers Brewing makes for a fun date night in in Casper Wyoming

Perhaps there is a stigma about Casper, Wyoming being predominantly a beer city. But with amazing breweries like Frontier Brewing Company, Skull Tree Brewing, Mountain Hops Brewhouse, and Oil City Beer Company to name a few it is easy to see why. However, one of the more romantic spots for couples to grab a beer in Casper is Gruner Brothers Brewing.

Of course, they have an amazing selection of beer like their Devilito, Hell’s Hef Acre, and their Ben Light Pilsner to name a few. But what makes this a great place for a date night in Casper is their tasting room and restaurant. Here you can share a flight of your favorite beers in their beautiful dining room or outside amid the amazing views of Downtown Casper from their outdoor deck.

Hot Tip: Of course the beer is amazing at Gruner Brothers, but make sure you arrive hungry. Inside the brewery is Ludovico Farm To Flame which has some great Italian food. But we recommend you split their “Big Dave” pizza because it was amazing!

  1. I’ve always wanted to go to All over the country and now I really want to go!! Very good guide, thanks for sharing!

  2. This is a very detailed guide to Casper. I would love to explore outdoor activities with my partner. Good places to eat is an integral part of romantic holiday. I’m glad you have covered it all.

    1. Yeah we were surprised with so many different types of outdoor activities that we could do together. Whether you want to play on the river or take a hike to the waterfall there is tons to do there in Casper, Wyoming!

  3. You had me at the covered waggon. I’m a sucker for olde world stuff. It looks like you had plenty of fun doing things I would enjoy too.

    1. Yeah it was a blast and the entire National Historic Trails Interpretive Center is packed with so many interactive “olde world stuff” that you get to learn about and actually play with! Such a fun adventure for sure!

  4. I love learning about our history and the National Historic Trail sounds like something I would enjoy. The Pony Express trail is something I have always been interested in since I was a kid after watching a show about the pony express riders.

    1. You would have loved it there Candy. We actually were a few days late but they had the actual for Real Pony Express riders collecting mail and riding it to California at the National Historic Trails Interpretive Center. That alone would have been a fun experience for us!

  5. Wyoming looks a lot more fun than I thought it would be. I’d love to check out the art scene there, and for sure would be doing some kayaking haha

  6. My husband is weird, as am I, so rolling uphill would be a priority for us. But seriously any place we can have fun together and bond is romantic.

    1. Haha, yeah they have an entire collection of Wonders of Casper (7 to be exact) and though most are cool a few are definitely awesomely bizarre! So if you guys are awkward or geeky like us then you will definitely love it! haha

  7. Now I’m excited to visit Casper! And it’s only about a four-hour drive from Denver.

    1. Yeah it is so close to you Darla!! We actually just drove by Denver on our way back home from Gillette, Wyoming where Darcee’s family lives back to New Orleans and it was an easy drive. So I definitely recommend you take a fun long weekend adventure up to Casper. You will love it!

  8. What a cool city! Ever since I moved back to the US in April, I’ve been looking at states I haven’t been to yet and Wyoming looks like such a unique place to visit. The food, beer, and cocktail scene in Casper would be fun to explore, and I would love to get out to that weird spot where you can supposedly coast uphill; the landscape looks so pretty!

    1. Yeah Kevin, you really need to check out Wyoming for sure and since you love to find the really cool places beyond the typical tourist spot then you will love Casper for sure!

  9. I think I need to go there! I’m all about brunch, hiking and cocktails! Can’t think of a better way to spend a day, a romantic day at that!

    1. Haha, sounds like Casper is the perfect place for you then cause it has it all. Just dont blame us if you never leave Sherrie’s place or the Cottage Cafe to actually go hiking or exploring cause their food is AMAZEBALLS!

  10. I may not have heard about Casper, Wyoming before, but I can totally see why your friend suggested it as a great spot for couples!

It looks like everything you did was fun, but I really like the sound of Gravity hill! Is it an optical illusion, so it’s not really uphill (I always like working out how those kind of things work!)

The hikes, river sports, cocktails and amazing breakfast sound like my cup of tea too. <3

    1. So from what I gather Josy, yes, it is more of an optical illusion rather than actually beating gravity! But the whole event of trying to debunk or solve the scientific bizarre phenomenon is just really fun to try!

  11. You two would have fun and romance anywhere you go! Casper does look like a blast and that giant breakfast would be fun to share.

    1. Share?? True Love means not ever having to share right? haha, well maybe not cause that Cinnamon Roll from Sherrie’s was gigantic haha so I guess I dont mind sharing with my love!

  12. Wow this looks like such an amazing place to take a trip to! The food and drinks look awesome!

  13. I had no idea that Casper, Wyoming is such a romantic place. It seems perfect as a weekend gateway for couples. So many things to do there. I like the downtown area, with so many amazing murals. I love street art, so I would like to see and photograph this place. Also, Nicolaysen Art Museum seems exciting. Great tips and a wide selection of things to do in Casper.

    1. Yeah if you guys love art, Casper has such a unique blend of modern museum style art mixed in with amazing street art. It is all so beautiful to walk around and enjoy together!

  14. Sounds like a really lovely trip. And romance happens in your heart, anyway, so the place doesn’t really matter. I, for instance, don’t find Paris romantic at all – I only go there for all the great exhibitions. I believe that many people simply fall for cliches – hence, why not Wyoming?!

    1. Haha, I agree. You can find romantic things to do anywhere, especially in Casper, Wyoming as long as you are open to new experiences together.

  15. Casper is a romantic gem for couples to visit. We would like to go there for skiing and snowshoeing in winter, rafting and hiking to the Garden Creek Falls in summer and of course we would love to ride a virtual wagon, send a mail by Pony Express and throw an atlatl at the National Historic Trails Interpretive Center. The Art Museum would be very interesting to see and also to do other fun things. Thank you for sharing this article. I am glad that there are fine cafes to eat and breweries to have a glass of beer. All of the pictures are very beautiful and very entertaining.

    1. Yeah you guys would love it there Natalia! Of course Wyoming is always a popular destination for winter sports but they are also great for their warmer activities too like rafting & hiking. Plus with all the other fun and romantic activities, you will always find something to do in Casper!

  16. As usual, the cocktails look delicious. I like the portions of the beer flights as well. Looks like a great place for couples. Dan and I will have to check it out.

    1. Yeah the drinks are no joke in Casper. Whether you love beer or awesome cocktails you and Dan will find something to wet your whistle for sure!

  17. Sounds like there is plenty to do for couples (and non-couples) in Casper, Wyoming. Wonderful range of activities to suit every age and interest..or just relax and eat/drink/sleep/repeat!!

    1. Yeah, whether you are an active traveler like Eric or you prefer to slowly mosey about while taking in the sights and art at a museum, there is definitely something for everyone or every type of couple.

  18. My partner and I would love some adventures. I’d love to try some water sports.

    1. Yeah rafting on the river was a lot of fun in Casper, Wyoming plus our guides made us laugh the whole time which is always an added bonus in my opinion.

  19. There is a little bit of everything for every type of traveler. Casper looks like a fun place to visit, I have to show this to my mom as she loves traveling!

    1. Yeah it was the coolest because no matter who you are or what you liked there was something for everyone in Casper, Wyoming for sure.

  20. I must admit I would never think of Casper Wyoming for a romantic getaway. We definitely would love to find a great waterfall view … that is quiet and not filled with tourists as a romantic spot. And you know we love to find fun stuff to do. And beer flights of tasty options might make us feel a bit more romantic! Or maybe sleepy? But even if not all traditionally romantic, it looks like Casper has much to recommend it.

    1. Haha, yeah, Beer definitely can make Eric a bit more romantic but kind of makes Darcee sleepy too if we have one too many of the good stuff like they serve in Casper. The waterfall and the whole surrounding hike was truly amazing. We too loved how we seemed to have the place almost to ourselves. Very beautiful and romantic for sure.

  21. I have just a few US states left that I haven’t visited, and Wyoming is one of them. You’ve sold me – Casper is where we’re going to go! I love all of the couples’ activities you’ve shown, and I really want to try the “weird stuff” you mentioned – we love that kind of thing!

    1. Haha, well, if you like weird then Casper has you covered. Don’t get us wrong, we loved all the amazing and different types of activities for couples in this part of Wyoming. But there is just something fun about trying to debunk or figure out a weird myth or local legend.

  22. Eric & Darcee,

Where to begin… thank you for coming to Casper and loving on our Wyoming mountain town for a little while. You two managed to capture our favorite place like true locals – with an adventurous spirit and a lot of heart. Beautiful story! Please come back soon!

    xx

    1. Thanks for having us! We absolutely loved the entire experience and loved how Casper had such a fun diversity of activities for all types of couples. That is why we keep telling people that Casper, Wyoming definitely needs to be on your Couple’s Bucket List. Plus for all those who actually Live in Wyoming, what an awesome city for a weekend romantic getaway that offers something for everyone!

  25. romantic time and romantic things to do are my favorite. We try to spice up our relationship with my partner through romance quite a lot

  26. Wow so many things to see and do there and I think Eggington’s my first choice, their breakfast really look tempting – Knycx journeyingk

  27. I love everything about Casper, Wyoming! The food, the old world feel, the endless green fields, the weird stuff. It’s definitely my kind of destination.

    1. Haha, we in particular loved exploring the weird stuff cause as a couple, we are definitely a bunch of goofy kids! I hope you guys get a chance to explore it.

  28. These are some absolutely amazing things to do as a couple. I want to visit Wyoming with my boyfriend to try out these fun things too.

  29. It sounds like there are plenty of things to do for couples. I’d stay in the Ramkota hotel as that sounds lovely. The backwards distilling company sounds perfect. I love the sound of the circus theme and those cocktails sound great!

  30. That’s awesome more romantic places to visit other than Paris. This definitely looks amazing to visit and enjoy some time.

  31. I would never have considered Casper as a romantic sport — I have never been to Wyoming before. But your post may have swayed me a bit (LOL) — it does look like a place with a lot of great activities for couples…

    1. Haha, never been to Wyoming? Well, young lady, you definitely need to take a trip out here for sure! Wyoming is truly amazing with Devil’s Tower, Yellowstone, and the cities of Cheyenne, Casper, & Sheridan all offering so much to see, experience & enjoy!

  32. Wow! I love visiting places like this! The foods look yummy and the places are absolutely amazing!
