Choosing Your Holiday Accommodations

Holidays in Hotels

The first thing most people think of when looking for a place to stay is a hotel. They are usually located in town centers, in busy tourist areas or as part of a resort. Staying in a hotel gives you the freedom to go out and enjoy the local area and can come in two different forms. First up, all inclusive. You will have all food, drink, and activities available at no extra cost- but the package is a little pricier, and you are stuck to set mealtimes. Half board is the other option, which means you get breakfast and dinner and can eat within certain hours. The last way to enjoy your stay is by opting for no food. This means you will fork out for your food but gives you the opportunity to eat somewhere different each night.

Whether you are looking for a fancy 5-Star Hotel or is a tent in the middle of the woods there are many different types of accommodation you can choose on your trip. Discover the best option for your next Holiday! Click To Tweet

Timeshares accommodations for a Family Holiday

The interior living room of a time share that accommodates a large family while on holiday

Timeshares offer you an excellent opportunity to get on the holiday home property ladder and carve out a little slice for yourself. You own a holiday home with several others, so you share the cost and the time you spend there. Hence the name. Going through a good company is key to a good timeshare. So take your time and don’t impulse buy. A simple trick is to Google a timeshare service and read the reviews. However, even getting out of a timeshare can be tricky. Most timeshare exit companies are reputable and helpful. But there are also dishonest ones who try to make it as difficult as possible for you to leave your contract. So just be aware.

Hanging out in Hostels

Youth Hostels are popular amongst College and University students who opt to take a gap year for travel. It offers a simple form of accommodation and basic amenities. Apart from that, many people choose to find a part time job to fuel living expenses for the duration of the stay. This isn’t as much of a ‘holiday’ per say, but more of a travel experience.

Cute Holiday Cottages

Staying in a cottage has many benefits in terms of holiday accommodations. First of all, it is private to you, and you have your own facilities to hand. Secondly, it is self-catering which means you have total control of what you eat and when; and lastly it is a great way to explore your own country without forking out for flights.

Staying in Lodges

Lodges are a form of holiday accommodations which offers many great features. Similar to cottages, you have rental of the property and can choose what you eat and when. ResortsandLodges.com offer a great selection of lodges across the country from different owners. This is a cheaper option and is perfect for if you want to go out and explore your local country or go on a hiking adventure.

Camping accommodations for your Holiday

Lastly, if you are the seasoned adventurer like Bear Grylls, camping is a good way to make the most of the nature and really put your skills to the test. You’ll have to live with only the basics, cook s’mores on the open fire and sleep under the stars, but it is a unique and gratifying experience. If you can’t handle the thought of not having a proper toilet though, Glamping is your other option. Stay in a kitted-out tent with facilities, but still experience the great outdoors.

  1. Nice article and great effort to put the accommodations of different kinds to travellers. What about a beach resort or island resort??

  2. I love camping in my tent. I love how I can just pull up to a campground and set-up. Plus most of the time I don’t have to make a reservation.

  3. Great breakdown of different types of accommodations! We love camping, but don’t do it enough internationally–I guess it’s so much easier to do when we are on road trips so we usually avoid it if we fly. Hotels and cabins are always nice to have a bit of privacy and sometime luxury, but we love AirBNBs too!

  4. I guess it differs from country to country. Also, it depends on the nature of the traveller. Hostels are a boon for backpackers. They save money and you can meet new people. But families can’t stay in hostels. I personally prefer homestays with local families, wherever available. That offers the best local experience.

  5. Yes Accommodation is indeed one of the most important components of travel. We are generally very particular about where we stay. Most of the times we stay in hotels which are pre-booked. We also do a lot of research so that we get the best deals and value for money.

  6. Camping and AirBNBs are my favorite travel options. I love that you can stay in a home and cook. I think it saves a tremendous amount of money. Cant say I ever stayed in a hostel. Maybe one day 🙂

  7. I’m mostly a camping kind of girl (I’d love for Bear Grylls to join me haha) but these days I also try hotels more and more. The glamping idea I love but have not yet tried myself …

  8. I love camping when I travel on my long distance cycling trips for several reasons. It is part of the adventure (naturally), brings you close to nature, and also means you can travel further for longer. Adding in Couchsurfing to the list is something I might suggest – it’s not just a great form of accommodation in cities, but it also helps you get to know the locals.

  9. Cottages and self contained apartments at hotels are where I look first when going on holidays. Airbnb has opened up a world of options too. At the start of this year I spent a week driving from Canberra, Australia to the Whitsundays. We stayed in a cottage, at someones house, a barn, a tent and a caravan. It was incredible to experience so much. Helped having access to the locals who would point us in the right direction of a good feed, markets or beer stops. 🙂

  10. A nice low down on the staying options while traveling. I too check out sites like Hotels.com and hostelsworld along with the regular hotel websites. Hostels sometimes are better and cheaper than most hotels!

  11. I feel like I’ve tried everything, with the exception of a hostel and sleeping on a boat. But last week, I stayed at a B & B on a goat farm! There’s so much out there, and it’s nice to have a variety, isn’t it?
